SCIENCE Nov. 28 - Dec. 2

On Monday, students will be given SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT information and due dates. Parents must sign and return the signature sheet by Monday, Dec. 5th. Even though the project isn't due until Feb. 13, there are due dates along the way to keep students on track.

This week in Science students will study and journal about the changing states of matter. We will study about melting and boiling points. We will also investigate chemical properties.


Math Enrichment will involve "problem solving" this week.

Tuesday: Unit 2 TEST
Wednesday - Friday: We are studying poetry in Reading class this week. During Language Arts, we will write poetry and study different styles.

This week in Reading class we will be reading the book "Love that Dog" by Sharon Creech. This book will introduce our POETRY UNIT. Students will learn about several types of poetry styles. They will be given a 'Poetry Journal' to use during this unit. Students are assigned to write at least one poem each day.

SPELLING Nov. 28 - Dec. 2

This week in Spelling we will study non-base words and homonyms. Lessons 56-59 will be completed in class. Students should take home their Spelling workbooks to study the word list in the back. TEST on Friday, Dec. 2.

SCIENCE Nov. 21-23

Science Fair student informational packets will be given out when we return from Thanksgiving Break (remember - no school Thursday and Friday).

Monday, Nov., 21, I will collect the "Current Science" worksheets.
This week in Science students will study and journal about the changing states of matter. We will look at melting and boiling points.

LANGUAGE ARTS Nov. 21-23

We have had a wonderful week with the Scholastic book fair here at AOT! If you didn't have a chance to stop by, Nov. 18 was the start of our online book fair, which will run for the next 21 days. The website address for the AOT Scholastic Online Book Fair will be emailed out to parents Nov 18. Pursue the thousands of books in the online catalog, create a Christmas wish list for out-of-town guests, and purchase even more awesome books. All books purchased through the online book fair will count towards our goal of selling 500 books. Students will water-balloon bomb Mr. Allardice when we reach this goal!


This week in Language Arts the students will complete the Persuasive Letter assignment. This letter is DUE Wed., Nov. 23.

This week in Reading class the students will be watching the movie "Holes". They will make a comparison chart listing similarities and differences between the movie and the book.

SCIENCE Nov. 14-18

Students have been studying Matter. We will take a closer look at "Atoms" and "Molecules". The students should learn the first 12 Elements on the Periodic Table (see page 9 in the student planner). QUIZ on Wed., Nov. 16. We will also take a look at "Solid, Liquid, and Gasses". Current events in Science will be discussed using Scholastic's Current Science magazine.

LANGUAGE ARTS Nov. 14-18

Visit the school's Scholastic Book Fair this week Nov. 14-18

This week in Language Arts students will have a Chapter Review, practice 'letter writing', and begin the Persuasive Writing assignment. On Nov. 23, a persuasive letter will be due. Students will have in-class lessons to guide them in this assignment.

This week we complete reading Holes by Louis Sachar. Students will share their dioramas and sequence them in order of events in the story. We plan to watch the movie "Holes" Nov. 21st  (see yellow half sheet in Nov. 10th "Friday Folder") to compare and contrast the book and movie.

This week in Spelling we will study non-base words and homonyms. Lessons 51-54 will be completed in class. Students should take home their Spelling workbooks to study the word list in the back. TEST on Friday, Nov. 18th.

SCIENCE Nov. 7-10

(NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, NOV. 11th - Hug a Veteran!)

Monday and Tuesday - Students will begin our Matter Unit: "What is the structure of Matter?" Classroom Investigations and Science Journal activities.

Wednesday - Miss Bright will lead the students in Math Enrichment Activities (See last week's Science post about Math Enrichment.)

Thursday - "Atoms and Molecules" define and diagram. Students will need to start memorizing the first 12 Elements on the Periodic Table. See page 82.

LANGUAGE ARTS Nov. 7-10

Students will prepare and present a "Speak-up" this week. The theme is 'My Favorite Holiday'
Monday - Students will be given the 'speak-up' guide.
Tuesday - Students will write their 'speak-up'.
Wednesday and Thursday - Speak-ups will be presented

READING Nov. 7-10

This week we continue reading Holes by Louis Sachar. Students will create a shoe box diorama which will showcase a scene from Holes. Class time will be given for this project.

SPELLING Nov. 7-10

No Spelling this week due to short week. We will use this period for Language Arts classwork.
