SCIENCE Oct. 31 - Nov. 4

No Class Monday due to Cemetery Field Trip 8:30 - 11:30

Tuesday - Cemetery "Reflections" ; Students will be given class time to complete their Cemetery Unit Flipbook Report. Report DUE Wed. Nov 2.


Wednesday & Thursday - "Yeast and Sugar" Investigation. My student teacher, Miss Bright will lead this "investigation" on Wednesday. On Thursday, I will lead the results and summary.

Friday - MATH ENRICHMENT; Beginning this quarter, once a week, during Science class, students will have Math Enrichment Activities, that I will direct. These activities will challenge students to improve their Math skills no matter their level of academic achievement.

LANGUAGE ARTS Oct. 31 - Nov. 4

Monday - none due to Cemetery Field Trip 8:30 - 11:30.
Tuesday - "Mixed Review" pages 98, 99 completed in class today.
Wednesday - "Singular Possessive Nouns" page 101: Writing Activity
Thursday - "Plural Possessive Nouns" page 103: Writing Activity
Friday - "Combining Sentences - Nouns" page 105: Writing Activity

READING Oct. 31 - Nov. 4

This week we continue with reading Holes by Louis Sachar. Students are reading the chapters together in class (no outside reading).  Continue to review vocabulary words from both vocab sets. 

SPELLING Oct. 31 - Nov. 4

This week in Spelling we will study non-base words and homonyms. Lessons 46 - 49 will be completed in class. Students should take home their Spelling workbooks to study the word list in the back. TEST on Friday, Nov. 4th.

SCIENCE Oct. 24-28

Parents - please stop by the school office and view the "Recyclable Human Bodies" that were constructed this past week.

Monday - Human Body Test; students may use their notes for this test.They need to know the function and major organs in the six body systems that we studied.

Tuesday - Thursday - Students will prepare for the Cemetery Field trip (Monday, Oct. 31, 8:30 - 11:30). They will be required to write a report. The requirements for this report will be given to the students in class. Students will work on the rough copy this week and the final copy is DUE on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Friday - No Science due to a guest speaker.

LANGUAGE ARTS Oct. 24-28

Friday - Run-on sentences Do: pages 84, 85: even #'s

READING Oct. 24-28

Monday - Vocabulary Quiz; words from chapters 1-8 (ran out of time on Friday).
Tuesday - New vocabulary words for chapters 9-17. 
We will read chapters 9-17 this week in class. Students should be ready for Holes reading QUIZ on Friday, October 28.

This week in Spelling we will study words with morphographs "vise" and "vize", "duce" and "ish". Lessons 41 - 44 will be completed in class. Students should take home their Spelling workbooks to study the word list in the back. TEST on Friday, October 28.

SCIENCE Oct. 17-21

This week the students will design and create a Human Body Model using recyclables. Each student is required to bring in some recyclables to use for this project.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES THIS WEEK. You will be able to look over your child's Science Journal at your conference with the homeroom teacher.

LANGUAGE ARTS Oct. 17-21

Due to Early Release Days (shortened schedule), Language Arts, Reading, and Spelling class periods will be devoted to reading Holes by Louis Sachar (chapters 1-8).

Reading Contract - Biography "Timeline" assignment DUE Tuesday.

This week we begin reading Holes by Louis Sachar. Together we will read chapters 1-8; complete vocabulary work; comprehension activities.

SCIENCE Oct. 10

Monday;  5th Grade Science classes will be creating a Human Body Model next week (Oct. 17-21). Students are required to collect recyclable items that could be used for our Human Body Model. These items may be brought in on Monday, Oct. 10 and DUE on Monday, Oct. 17.

Tuesday - Friday; no Science due to 5th grade camp Oct. 11, 12 and Fall Break (no school) Oct. 13, 14.

LANGUAGE ARTS Oct. 10

Monday; the students will listen to a reading of Horton Hatches the Egg and The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss and write about the story's meaning/lesson and apply it to their lives.

Tuesday - Friday; no Language Arts due to 5th grade camp Oct. 11, 12 and Fall Break (no school) Oct. 13, 14.

SCIENCE October 3-7

*** The 5th Grade class will be creating a Human Body Model once we complete our unit. Students are encouraged to collect recyclable items that could be used for our Human Body Model. Save these items at home until an announcement is given to bring them in for construction.***

Monday Skeletal System Create a skeleton with partner. Students should study the highlighted skeletal parts on their study guide.
Tuesday Skeletal and Muscular Systems Review Students will take notes in their Science Journal
Wednesday and Thursday Scholastic "Super Science" monthly magazine Once a month, the class will read and discuss current news in the field of Science. Students will have a Science worksheet packet to complete by end of class Thursday, Oct. 6.
Friday Nervous System Students will be introduced to the Nervous System and complete a "Human Organ Chart" in class.

READING October 3-7

"Reading Contract- Biography"
New Reading Contract packet was given to students on Monday, Sept. 19th. They chose a biography to read. Continue reading the biography. Writing assignment due Friday, Oct. 7th.



Sports Report and 'Speak-up' 
Students will be given a Sports Report Guide on Monday, Oct. 3. They will work on this in class but students will need to do some outside research on their chosen sport. Students will present Sports Report orally in class on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7.

SPELLING October 3-7

This week the students will use "Word Building" skills, identify "Vowel Patterns"; plus, they will learn more about "Nonbase Words". Students complete spelling lessons #36-#39 in class.  They should use their lessons to study for Friday's test on Oct. 7th.
