This week the student will be writing a fictional story that will be the basis for a puppet script. Students will work in teams to create  puppet shows.  They will also design scenery and props. 

SPELLING April 30 - May 4

Lessons 116-119 will be completed in class. Students should take home their Spelling workbooks to study the word list in the back. TEST on Friday, May 4.

SCIENCE April 23-27

This week in Science the students will review Lesson 2 about the Earth and its Moon. We will continue on to study Lesson 3 about The Solar System. Students will have a quiz on vocabulary terms, that are in their Science Journals, and define new terms.

Looking ahead; Chapter 5 Test will be next week. A study guide will be given out next week prior to the test.

We are reading two short stories this week; The All-American Slurp and The Bracelet. Students will answer questions about each story.

SCIENCE April 16-20

Thank you to the students that have taken advantage of completing EXTRA CREDIT Science work. Some students have raised their grade a full letter; example:  C+ to B-. I encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity to raise their Science grade. Extra Credit ideas include: completing an investigation from the Science book or reading a book about our Solar System and give a report or other experiment.

This week in Science students will be reading Scholastic's Super Science magazine. We will complete the worksheet packet together in class. No homework due to AIMS testing this week. (A great week to complete some extra credit Science....hint, hint)

LANGUAGE ARTS April 16-20

Due to the shortened class schedule because of the AIMS Testing block, Language Arts class will combined with Reading class this week. (See Reading below.)

SCIENCE April 9-13

We continue with our Unit "Earth, Moon and Beyond". This week we focus our study on the Earth's Moon. Students will take notes in their Science Journals and complete the Lesson 2 questions (page 195:1-6).

REMINDER: Students may still re-take the Chapter 4 TEST. See me during Study Skills time or after school.

LANGUAGE ARTS April 9-13

This week in Language Arts, the students will practice using dictionaries. Also, they will critique student writing samples (from previous years) looking for the 6 Traits of Writing. (See details http://6traitswriting.com/ ) Students will write their own paper and critique for the 6 Traits.

READING April 9-13

READING CONTRACT - Realistic Fiction

Watch for the NEW Reading Contract - Historical (Civil War era book) 

We continue reading the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. 
New vocabulary words will be given on Monday. Students should study the meaning of these words. Students will create a plot line of the story and draw three portraits of the main character (beginning, middle, and end of story) Students will have a test on Hatchet next week.

SPELLING April 9-13

In place of Spelling, this week, the students will participate in the "Buckle Down" Reading program. This program promotes 'fine tuning' of reading skills; identifying the main idea, defining vocabulary words based on usage, interpreting graphic organizers, and correctly using reference sources. These practice lessons are in preparation of next week's AIMS testing.
