SCIENCE Jan. 3-6

SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT DUE IN SIX WEEKS - FEB. 13TH


Each week in Science class we will go over the requirements for the Science Fair Project.
Wed., Jan. 4th, I will be checking the student's Science Fair Project Journal. (Journal sheet was given out before break but students may choose to use a Journal Book.) 
Monday, Jan. 9th, I will be checking the student's "Variables" and "Hypothesis". (A form was given out before break to be completed.) 
 Students may complete these before the due dates.


We begin our FORCE UNIT (Chapter 3). Students will journal about different kinds of 'force'. We will take a closer look at 'gravity'.


Math Enrichment this week will be "The 24 Game". Students should review basic multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction facts.




LANGUAGE ARTS Jan. 3-6

Tuesday:  "Subject - Verb Agreement" pages 174, 175:1-20
Wednesday:  "Past & Present Tense Verbs" page 177; Writing Activity
Thursday:  "Commas" pages 178, 179:1-20
Friday:  "Mixed Review" pages 180, 181:1-25

READING Jan. 3-6

This week in Reading class we will be writing letters to the Academy of Tucson 4th grade classes. We hope to visit their campus and have them visit us sometime in the second semester. Tentative plans are underway.

We will begin reading The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Define/study vocabulary words (to be given on Thursday).

SPELLING Jan. 3-6

This week in Spelling we will study non-base words. Lessons 66-69 will be completed in class. Students should take home their Spelling workbooks to study the word list in the back. TEST on Friday, Jan. 6.

SCIENCE Dec. 12-15

Science Fair Project information - Students should use the holiday break to get started on their project. On Monday, Dec. 12th, they will be given a "Variable" worksheet to complete and "Journal" sheet to help track their project.  More information about the "Abstract" (research paper) will be given out in January.

This week, we will be reading another issue of Scholastic's "Current Science" magazine and completing a worksheet packet in class.

Monday - Action Verbs pages 168-169
Tuesday - Direct Objects pages 170-181
Wednesday - Verb Tense pages 172-173

Thursday - My homeroom class will have a Holiday Party. We plan to watch a holiday movie, eat snacks (parents: if possible, send in finger foods like cookies, apple slices, chips), play games. Thursday is an early release day at 12:05.

This week in Reading class we will read a short story and discuss it, draw a plotline, and create a scene from the story.

SPELLING Dec. 12-15

No Spelling this week due to our short week. We will use this period to continue with the Reading class (short story).

SCIENCE Dec. 5-9

SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT "Research Requirements" hand-out will be given to students on Monday, Dec. 5. This research sheet is due Monday, Dec. 12th.

CHAPTER 2 TEST on Thursday, Dec. 8th.
We will prepare and review for this test during class this week.

Math Enrichment on Friday. Ask your student about "Skunk" :D

LANGUAGE ARTS Dec. 5-9

POETRY UNIT continues this week. Students will learn about different styles of poems and study examples; plus create their own poetry. This has been a fun journey for the students! Each day they are assigned a type of poem to write in their Poetry Journal.

(Students who wish to re-take Unit 2 Test may do so this week.)

READING Dec. 5-9

This week in Reading we continue writing in Poetry Journals. See Language Arts for more information.

SPELLING Dec. 5-9

This week in Spelling we will study homonyms, non-base words, and review affix rules. Lessons 61-64 will be completed in class. Students should take home their Spelling workbooks to study the word list in the back. TEST on Friday, Dec. 9.
